Tung Po - Dai pai dong goodness

Like we have hawker centres in Singapore, there are also cooked food centres in Hong Kong. A friend introduced me to this particular one, located within walking distance of North Point MTR station and also accessible by tram.

Stalls in this cooked food centre are essentially dai pai dongs - but located in an indoor, air-conditioned environment. The one of our choice was Tung Po, which had by far the most business that night.

Reservations are essential. And you'd better follow the instructions on this tongue-in-cheek notice and call only between 2.30pm and 5.30pm daily. ;)

Anyways. We liked the wind sand chicken (风沙鸡).

As well as the steamed sea crab with fresh milk and egg white (鲜奶蛋白蒸花蟹).

Some of the other dishes we tried... This fried rice dish with a funny name - 败家仔 (direct translation: a bad son who dwindles away the family wealth). Heh.

And I think this was some sort of tofu. Not bad.

Another toufu dish.

And a standard zhi char (煮炒) dish - sweet and sour pork (咕嚕肉). It was tasty and did not disappoint.

The stall sometimes serves up a bowl of complimentary dessert at the end of your meal. We've had sweet potato soup before, and this is grass jelly in ginger soup (very, very spicy!). We weren't served dessert on some visits, so it seems to be completely random.
